TICO Ultrasonic Tester
TICO is an ultrasonic instrument which can be used for a non-destructive determination of concrete quality.
It uses the pulse velocity method to provide information on the uniformity of concrete, cavities, cracks and defects, the modulus of elasticity and compressive strength.
Features
- TICO can measure via direct transmission, semi-direct transmission, indirect or surface transmission
- Combined measurements with rebound hammer are possible
Applications
- Typically used on site to assess the uniformity of concrete
- Determination of crack depth
- Estimation of compressive strength in combination with a rebound value from a Schmidt hammer
- Indirect estimation of the elastic modulus and Poisson’s Ratio according to BS 1881, part 203
Product Variations
- Various transducers of different frequencies are available depending on the application, 24kHz, 37kHz, 54kHz (standard delivered with instrument), 82kHz and 150kHz
- Exponential transducers, 45 kHz with pointed tip to measure on rough surfaces
Standardization
- EN 12504-4:2004 (formerly BS 1881 Part 203)
- ASTM C 597
